Create a Donut Chart in Tableau
In order to create a donut chart in Tableau, we need one dimension and one measure. Creating the donut chart essentially involves creating a pie chart and duplicating it. Making the duplicated pie chart white fill and reducing the size of the white fill to show the behind pie chart which appears like donut.
Follow the steps below to create a donut chart.
- Open the new sheet and select Pie Marks card.
- Drang a dimension like Region into the colors card on tableau sheet
- Drag a measure like Sales into the Size card on tableau sheet
- Now the pie chart is created, resize the pie chart to make it bigger by dragging on the edges.
- Drag the '# Number of Records' from the Measures pane to the Rows shelf( Or create a measure with just value as 1 or 0 and drag it to the rows shelf)
- Again Drag the '# Number of Records' from the Measures pane to the Rows shelf which is a duplicate.
- Right click on the measure in the rows shelf '# Number of Records' and change the measure calculation to minimum. Do the same for other duplicate measure in the rows shelf.
- Right click on the second # Number of Records' on the rows shelf and select 'Dual Axis', which makes us to see single pie which pie on another.
- Click the second measure(# Number of Records' ) in the Marks card and remove the color and size options by dragging them out now you see the grey circle in place of pie.
- Go to color palette in the marks card and select the color as white which makes the second chart filled with white.
- Now click on the size in the Marks card and reduce the size by which you see the underlying colored pie chart.
- Drag the Sales measure into the Label in Marks card for each of the pie's separately and remove any axes by unchecking them.
